Calling Card For General & Mrs. A.B. Eaton, A Ceremony in Washington 1864.
Amos Beebe Eaton, 1806 – 1871, was a career army officer.
Chief of Ordnance during the Civil War after the death of Gen. Joseph P. Taylor. in 1864.
He retired in 1874, died in 1877 in New Haven, Ct.
The printed card has the street address of the home/quarters in Washington.
The ceremony (presumably a wedding or similar event) was held at St. John’s Church, on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1864 (year date written in pencil.)
The envelope has a English style “E” embossed on the cover, and is most likely the general’s wife’s ( Elizabeth Seldon Spencer, 1796 -1868, married in 1831) envelope.
